About the Workshops
The Literacy Council uses the "Laubach training" method based on approved Laubach training resources that prepare volunteers to work with beginning and basic-level learners using one-on-one tutoring. The Laubach method teaches letter-sound relationships through association with familiar objects. Students learn writing as well as reading and move from familiar words to new vocabulary in small steps. ESOL training is included in the workshop.
Workshops include four sessions of three to four hours each. Tutors must attend the first two sessions; the other two can be done
at your own pace with videos of the sessions.
Workshops cost $20, which covers the cost of the training manual and includes a one year membership in the Literacy Council and ProLiteracy.
