Tutors! Your donated volunteer hours mean MONEY to the Literacy Council

Your tutoring is worth $12 an hour. That's how much the Literacy Council can count as an "in kind" grant when you volunteer. When you report your hours, we can show potential funders how well we are doing. Use the "hour report form" to report any hours you donate to the Literacy Council. Count tutoring time, travel time, preparation time, consulting time, meeting times, phone time (related to the Literacy Council), even waiting time for an appointment. Be sure to report all your hours. They are valuable to you and to the Literacy Council. Make them count--Count them!

Literacy Council Membership

Annual membership dues of $20 support the Literacy Council. Members receive our newsletter, Literacy Lights, and other information about Council activities and projects. Members show potential grantors that the community support us and our mission.

Donations

We use donations to sponsor students, train tutors, purchase books and materials, pay our office staff, and pay for our facility costs.

Donations are vital to our organization and a way to support literacy in the Carroll County community. We welcome one time donations, lifetime gifts, and planned giving.

To maintain the confidentiality of our students, we do not accept government grants. That means we need to make up the difference with private funds.

Other Fund Raising Opportunities

• Student sponsorship: $150. As a sponsor, you will receive a yearly report on your “student’s” progress. (To protect student confidentiality, reports do not use the student’s real name.)
• Attend our “Anyule Spelin’ Be”: General tickets $15. Our yearly Spelling Be, sponsored by the Carroll County Times, Advocates, and Community Times newspapers, provides a picnic style supper and an evening of fun.
• Enter a four person spelling team in the “Anyule Spelin’ Be”: $375. Organizations can support the Literacy Council, work with friends and co-workers, and compete against other teams for the title of Carroll County Champion Spellers.
• Become a member: $20. (Tax deductable) Membership funds support our operating expenses. Members receive our newsletters and email messages.
• Contribute items to the annual Non-Profit Center Yard Sale.
