Mission
The Literacy Council’s mission is to provide adult learners and families with one-on-one, free, confidential tutoring to develop or improve skills in speaking, reading, writing, math, ESOL (English as a second language), and basic computer knowledge.
The Literacy Council provides tutoring to Carroll County residents who request help or who are referred to us. All potential students are assessed to determine their ability levels, interests, and goals. The Council trains volunteer tutors in the Laubach literacy system, using Laubach's "each one teach one" system. Tutors work with students one-on-one, helping them to reach their goals and achieve their greatest potential. The Literacy Council offers students and tutors a wide variety of resources and materials as well as training and advice to help them succeed.
